Over the festive period, Coca-Cola is running a promotion in Co-op stores to raise funds to support FareShare’s work fighting hunger in the UK.
When you pick up any 500ml Coca-Cola product between 15th November – 26th December, 1p will be donated to FareShare. Through this promotion, Coca-Cola has committed to donate £25,000, which will enable FareShare to provide 100,000 meals for people in need.
The promotion will be communicated on branded shipper units, shelf barkers and till screens in over 900 Co-op stores, as well as on the Co-op website.
This new promotion expands on Coca-Cola’s 2016 Christmas on-pack promotion in support of FareShare, which was the company’s first ever charity promotion in the UK.
Lindsay Boswell, CEO of FareShare says: “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Coca-Cola for a new Christmas promotion with Co-op this year. The money raised will enable FareShare to provide a further 100,000 meals worth of food to charities that support vulnerable people all across the UK, both at Christmastime and all year round.”
Nick Brown, head of sustainability at Coca-Cola European Partners, said: “We are a long-standing partner of FareShare and are very proud to be working with the Co-op this Christmas to support the amazing work this charity does to alleviate food poverty and tackle food waste. We hope this promotion will engage consumers, raise awareness of an important cause as well as raising funds to help provide thousands of meals to people in need.”
CJ Antal-Smith, Director of Trading at Co-op said: “Co-op is proud to be an existing supporter of FareShare through our depot food re-distribution scheme which started in 2015, where we redistribute stock from Co-op depots which would have previously either gone to waste or sent back to suppliers. This has meant that from 2016 , we have redistributed enough good food to provide millions of meals for vulnerable people. The new promotion with Coca-Cola provides another opportunity for us to support this fantastic charity.
“We are a long-standing partner of FareShare and are very proud to be working with the Co-op this Christmas to support the amazing work this charity does to alleviate food poverty and tackle food waste.”

When it comes to food waste we like to think we know the bigger picture. Those old images of the European tomato mountain being bulldozed into the ground. The mouldy lettuce we’ve hastily hurled into the pedal bin. Well think again.
