Our Work With Bidvest

FareShare works closely with both Bidvest Logistics and Bidfood to ensure that any food that might go to waste within their operations is diverted to feed people in need.

Bidvest Logistics

FareShare Food Partner Bidvest

Bidvest Logistics provides distribution and supply chain services to larger operators in the foodservice industry, including many well-known restaurant chains such as PizzaExpress, Ask Italian, Zizzi, Pizza Hut and Nando’s.

The team at Bidvest Logistics want their customers to do the right thing with their surplus food, so that all in-date surplus food can benefit people in need rather than go to waste. Since 2009, the company give a financial incentive for their customers to make their surplus food available to charity, by offering a reduced rate to deliver to FareShare compared to the cost of disposal.

Bidvest Logistics then deliver their customer’s stock at no cost to FareShare and add this to existing scheduled routes, saving road miles and carbon emissions.

This scheme has enable FareShare to receive great quality, surplus food from the likes of PizzaExpress, Ask Italian, Zizzi, Pret A Manger, and Nando’s.

Alix Cunningham, National Account Manager at Bidvest Logistics says:

“We actively work with our customers to ensure that any suitable surplus food is delivered to FareShare depots across the country. We and our customers value the work that FareShare do and are committed to continuing to work with them to minimise food waste.”

Bidfood

Bidfood operates as a foodservice wholesaler supplying fresh, frozen, and ambient products to customers in a wide range of sectors within the foodservice and catering industry, including local authorities, NHS trusts, prisons, hotel and restaurant chains as well as many independent operators in the hospitality industry.

As of October 2016, Bidfood have introduced a process that links up five of their sites with their nearest FareShare Regional Centre. Once twinned together, the Bidvest site supplies any surplus food occurring on their premises to their local FareShare on a regular basis.

Bidfood Swithenbank was the first site to link with their nearest FareShare Regional Centre, FareShare Yorkshire. This has resulted in multiple deliveries of great quality surplus stock each week, and existing processes from Swithenbank (Bidfood’s Fresh solution) to send short-dated and damaged stock to FareShare will now be replicated across the network.

Jim Gouldie, Supply Chain Director at Bidfood says:

“On the occasions where we do have food waste, we have strengthened our relationships with a range of charities to ensure almost all food does not go to landfill, and to support these organisations. This includes the development of a strategic relationship with FareShare, who are one of the UK’s largest food distribution organisations.
We believe FareShare offer an excellent solution in ensuring we can minimise the amount of waste that goes into landfill, while supporting the needs of those less fortunate in our communities.”

Collectively, Bidfood and Bidvest Logistics has supplied FareShare with enough surplus produce, meat, ready meals, bakery and frozen food to make 100,000 meals for vulnerable people.

Mark Varney, Director of Food at FareShare says:

“We really value our partnership with Bidvest to ensure that any surplus food that is fit to eat is consumed by people in need. Having such a key foodservice partner such as Bidvest is really important to FareShare, to enable us to unlock surplus food from this area of the food industry.”
