Love is in the air: Catching up with Barry and Denise from FareShare South West

14 February 2022

Barry Coles and Denise Dale have both been volunteering at FareShare South West for over five years. Dedicating three to five days a week to the cause, they began by helping deliver surplus food to local charities and have most recently been helping in the warehouse.

Full time carer Denise joined FareShare because she likes to help people and make new friends. “Each day is different and it’s really nice to be a part of a team.”

Having met whilst volunteering at FareShare South West over five years ago, we’re very excited to announce that Denise and Barry got married in autumn 2021. We wish them all the best for a happy life together!

Barry and Denise were awarded a Highly Commended award for Warehouse Assistant of the Year at FareShare’s annual volunteering awards in September 2021. They were nominated as a pair by their team at FareShare South West for their tremendous selflessness, reliability and loyalty.

Volunteer Manager Peter Clarke, said: “Throughout their time with us they have consistently demonstrated a real can-do attitude, frequently stepping into new roles as required (Barry is our volunteer forklifter at Ashton Gate, for example), as well as taking on the training and mentoring of new volunteers. They are both an absolute pleasure to work with and are easily two of our most highly valued, respected and loved volunteers – congratulations to them both!” Outside of FareShare Denise and Barry enjoy cycling, walking and indoor bowls.
