An update on FareShare Trustee, Damien Harte

19 October 2020

The staff and fellow Trustees of FareShare are extremely sad to announce the recent passing of Damien Harte who had been a Trustee of our charity since February 2019. After joining the FareShare Board, Damien worked hard to quickly understand the inner workings of our organisation and of our people. He was a member of the Finance Sub-Committee.

We considered ourselves extremely fortunate to have Damien’s support and guidance as a Trustee and we benefited enormously from his considerable experience and knowledge, particularly in the areas of Finance and Logistics.

Prior to retiring earlier this year, Damien was the Chief Financial Officer at Eddie Stobart Logistics PLC and therefore was perfectly placed to steer us on some of FareShare’s most recent key projects. In particular, he supported us closely on the new food purchasing process which FareShare instigated as part of the £10.5m DEFRA-funded pilot in the summer of 2020, ensuring that both logistical processes and appropriate financial processes and controls were set up quickly and carefully implemented for this very large new contract to ensure it operated successfully as planned.

Over the last 9 months Damien oversaw the Finance department’s work regarding the selection and implementation of the new accounting system which started on 1st October 2020. This represents a step-change in FareShare’s processes having become a larger organisation in recent years and will benefit FareShare for many years to come. We shall be hugely grateful for all the support and experience which Damien provided in this process.

Damien demonstrated his passion for, and loved being part of, the FareShare family and was looking forward to playing a much larger role in the Finance Sub-Committee.

FareShare’s Chief Executive Lindsay Boswell said: “He was everything you could want for in a trustee, forensic in his attention to detail, really passionate about our work and a really lovely man”.

Damien will be greatly missed and we send our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his wife Sue and children Conor, Maeve and Will.
