Comic Relief super sorters pack food for vulnerable people this Christmas

13 December 2018

150 Comic Relief staff rolled up their sleeves to help FareShare’s volunteers sort the whopping 19 pallets of packets and tins collected at the Tesco Food Collection last week. These store cupboard essentials will be sent to 10,000 frontline charities across the UK, including homeless hostels, refuges, food banks and breakfast clubs for children. They will be redistributed alongside fresh, in date surplus meat, fish, cheese and fruit and veg, and used to create hearty, healthy meals for those in food poverty.

FareShare CEO Lindsay Boswell, said: “Every year our biggest challenge is sorting these donations quickly, so they can be delivered to charities up and down the country. The Comic Relief team put in an absolutely sterling effort, sorting the food at astonishing speed. We can’t thank them enough – it’s going to make such a difference in the run-up to Christmas.”

“We also want to thank SEGRO for donating one of their warehouses. Without them we couldn’t possibly have pulled off this feat of super sorting.”
