Easter treats and egg hunts at FareShare

When it comes to egg hunts, FareShare staff and volunteers didn’t have far to look -- over 24,360 of them were redistributed to charities and community groups in the days leading up to the Easter Weekend.

And it’s not just eggs. A whopping 2,428 surplus hot cross buns have come through the doors of our warehouses.

Over in the North East, FareShare was on hand to deal with an urgent Easter request from charity Beyond Limits, who needed a special delivery of goodies for its annual Easter Fun Day.

Set in the rolling hills and wild woodlands of the North Pennines, Beyond Limits provides short breaks, craft sessions, courses and outdoor activities for families facing financial hardship, relationship breakdown or serious illness. The charity also distributes emergency provisions to people who need them, including people who are homeless.

For its Easter Event, Beyond Limits hosted a grand garden party, so that families going through a difficult time still had a chance to make special memories over the Easter break. The day was a huge success, with over seventy people enjoying the spring sunshine.

Charity Founder Susan Sadler, said: “We opened up the garden, and we had dancing, competitions, face painting and a bouncy castle. It was lovely to see, the children were so excited and we had glorious weather. FareShare went the extra mile to make sure we had all the right foods for our buffet. We had butter and eggs so we were even able to make cakes.”

“If we didn’t get the food from Fareshare there’s no way we could do our food outreach. We get very little funding and it has to go a long way. The clients are bowled away by the food we give them.”

One mum said: “On Saturday Beyond Limits held an Easter event. I went with my husband, niece and a friend and we had a fantastic time. My niece didn't want to come home! Everyone was so friendly and some crazy parents, including myself, even had our faces painted. We were even blessed by the weather… it was the warmest day of the year so far. Thank you for a great day, and, most importantly, for the invite.”
