FareShare’s Volunteer Awards 2021

20 September 2021

Last year was one of FareShare’s most challenging and busy years to date. During 2020/21, FareShare redistributed more than 55,000 tonnes of food to people at risk of hunger. That’s the equivalent of nearly 132 million meals, or 4 meals every second. We couldn’t have succeeded without the support of our 1500 volunteers from across the UK.

“It’s fair to say that without volunteers we would not be able to help so many people across the UK. Everyone who volunteers at FareShare makes such an amazing contribution and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers” says Bryan Precious, Head of Volunteering at FareShare.

After the success of our previous volunteer awards we were really looking forward to celebrating our volunteers in person. However, Covid-19 restrictions meant a large scale event may not have been possible, so this year, we took it online! With trophies and certificates sent ahead via post, volunteers and FareShare staff from across the network joined a digital ceremony, with video clips from volunteer managers. The event was hosted by Bryan Precious, Head of Volunteering and Commercial Director Alyson Walsh.

“Words can’t express how much volunteers have helped us during the pandemic. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of all our volunteers and hope they find their experience rewarding by knowing their hard work helps local people, whilst saving food from waste. It would be impossible to carry out our vital work without the dedication of our volunteers. We are always looking for new people to join us. If you can spare a couple of hours, we would love to hear from you” said Alyson Walsh, Commercial Director.

Congratulations to all our volunteers and thank you again for your incredible contribution to FareShare.
