Pupils at a Leicester Primary School wrote a letter to say thanks for FareShare food, which they used recently for a fun school and community BBQ.
“Since FareShare has been providing food for our pupils, we have seen a massive change in their behaviour and their attitude towards learning.”
Tim Foster, Acting Head Teacher of Oakfield
FareShare makes regular deliveries of nutritious, quality surplus food to Oakfield Short Stay School. This time the delivery included mango, tomatoes, yoghurts, Quorn sausages and veggie burgers, so staff organised a barbeque for the whole school on the playing field, where pupils also participated in a game of football to encourage a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Ayaaz said: “There were a lot of tomatoes and mangos and everybody liked all the food. The vegetables and fruit were healthy and the best part is it’s free! I can’t wait for the next order of food for us to try.”
Tim Foster, Acting Head Teacher of Oakfield, said that the food the school received from FareShare also enhanced pupils’ behaviour: “Since FareShare has been providing food for our pupils, we have seen a massive change in their behaviour and their attitude towards learning.
“They are better nourished through the day, more alert and happier. The whole atmosphere around school has been lifted by the opportunity for our community to eat together and share traditional ‘family moments’ over food.”
