Hooray! We’ve supplied over 28.6 million meals for vulnerable people this year

People Displaying Food

18 May 2017

Our annual figures are in, and we’re delighted to announce that in the last year alone we’ve redistributed enough surplus food to create over 28.6 million nutritious meals for people in need. That’s 17% more food than we delivered last year!

FareShare receives good quality, in date surplus food from manufacturers, producers and retail suppliers and redistributes it to charities and community groups, including homeless shelters, women’s refuges and breakfast clubs for disadvantaged children. These charities then transform it into nutritious meals which they provide along with life changing support to help people get back on their feet.

This year, we redistributed enough surplus food to feed almost half a million people a week, through 6,723 frontline charities across the UK. To give you an idea of just how many people we’re talking about, it’s roughly equivalent to feeding everyone in the city of Manchester.

We’re also proud to announce that this year we’ve delivered food to over 1,300 towns and cities in the UK – another new record!

FareShare Chief Executive Lindsay Boswell, said: “FareShare has hit another incredible milestone but we couldn’t have done it without our army of volunteers who work so tirelessly to get the food where it’s needed most. We must also thank our generous donors, and of course the retailers and companies who are committed to doing the right thing with their surplus food and feeding people first.”
