A partnership between one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of fresh produce, Minor Weir and Willis, and FareShare has seen more than 603.7 tonnes of surplus food – equivalent to 1 million meals – saved from waste and redistributed to support those vulnerable to food poverty throughout the UK.
“Minor Weir and Willis is committed to minimising food waste throughout its supply chain. By collaborating with FareShare, we have managed to use our surplus product to help feed families in need and raised staff morale. We look forward to continuing to partner FareShare in this worthwhile cause.”
Sant K Mehta, the Chairman of Minor Weir and Willis
Minor Weir and Willis has been working with Fareshare since June 2019 to reduce food waste and to provide fresh and healthy produce to those who need it most. We have received a wide range of produce such as; apples, potatoes, broccoli, courgettes and pears, all with high nutritional content and full of vitamins and antioxidants, supporting a healthy diet.
Lindsay Boswell, FareShare Chief Executive, said: "On behalf of Fareshare, we congratulate Minor Weir and Willis on the one million meal milestone and for choosing to support our mission. By ensuring its surplus food feeds people first, Minor Weir and Willis is reducing its impact on the environment whilst also helping make a real difference for the community groups and charities we supply. We look forward to building on our work with Minor Weir and Willis in the future."
Thank you Minor Weir and Willis, you are true #foodheroes.
