The UK’s largest food redistribution charity has been shortlisted for PR Team of the Year at the prestigious Charity Times Awards 2018.

FareShare is among just seven charities to have made the shortlist, in recognition of its work with The Daily Telegraph as part of the national newspaper’s Christmas Charity Appeal 2017.

The campaign showcased the charity to a global audience through interviews with and case studies on beneficiaries and community groups across the UK which receive surplus food from FareShare.

In partnering with The Daily Telegraph, FareShare secured 33 online and print articles in a national newspaper with a global reach – with as many as 1.5 billion people having the opportunity to read or see the coverage.

Most significantly, the campaign resulted in a phenomenal fundraising effort, raising £169,928. With £1 covering the cost of four meals, the total amount raised provided almost 680,000 meals for people living in food poverty.

“The work and coverage was a great success as readers donated enough to fund the cost of over 500,000 meals – which was absolutely invaluable during one of our busiest times of year – so we are thrilled the campaign has been recognised by the industry.”

The winner of the hotly contested award will be decided by a panel of eight judges who are leaders in the charity sector. Other organisations up for the highly coveted title include Asthma UK, Barley Communications, Borough Market, Living Streets, Meningitis Research Foundation and Sustain.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, held on Wednesday 3 October at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
