JD Wetherspoon scoops Waste No Food prize for work with FareShare

On Monday 1 October, JD Wetherspoon were awarded Waste No Food Award at the Sustainable Restaurant Association's annual Food Made Good Awards.

“This fresh, in date surplus is of enormous value to the charities and community groups that receive it - such as homeless hostels, hospices and lunch clubs for older people. We're delighted that JD Wetherspoon's contribution has been rightly recognised with this award.”

Over the last year, JD Wetherspoon has redistributed 3.4 tonnes of surplus meat, ready meals and desserts to food redistribution charity FareShare, enough to create over 8,000 meals for vulnerable people.

Quality Assurance Manager at JD Wetherspoon PLC, Sophie Finn, said: “We are very happy to have won the Waste No Food Award. It is nice to know that all our efforts are being recognised, and we wouldn’t be here without the help of FareShare, it is amazing knowing that our surplus food is helping people in need”
