Thanks to all our food partners who’ve made Christmas dinner possible this year!

23 December 2016

Thanks to the support of our food partners, FareShare have been able to provide Christmas dinner to people who may otherwise go without. We have received surplus turkeys, salmon, carrots, sprouts, parsnips, pigs in blankets, stuffing, desserts and many more food items, which all come together to make the perfect Christmas dinner.

Some of the highlights include…

  • Turkeys from Asda and Abel & Cole
  •  Pigs in blankets from Tesco
  • Stuffing from Aunt Bessies
  • Salmon from Farne Salmon
  • Sprouts from Kettle produce
  • Christmas pudding from Tesco
  • Oranges from AMT Fruit

Better still, all these products would have otherwise gone to waste, but thanks to collaboration from our food partners these can be diverted to charities and community groups across the UK, to help them put on a festive dinner for the vulnerable people they support.

All our 20 Regional Centres are busy ensuring that this good surplus food gets delivered to local charities, such as homeless shelters, day centres for older people suffering from social isolation and community centres for families on low incomes, ready for the big day.

For a local charity, putting on a full Christmas dinner can cost a lot of money, so being able to receive this food from FareShare and our food partners helps make Christmas dinner possible.

Clare Johnson, who runs White Christmas, a festive dinner for 500 people who would otherwise be on their own, explains: “Most of the menu will be made with surplus food redistributed to us by FareShare. We don’t have much funding this year so without food from FareShare it would have been really difficult to hold this year’s event. If we all work together we can make a difference!”

During the season of goodwill, what could be better than that?

Merry Christmas everyone!
