Bakkavor, the UK’s leading provider of fresh prepared food, has recently raised over £9,000 for FareShare through several great fundraising initiatives, helping to provide enough food to create 36,000 meals for people in need.

Bakkavor is passionate about tackling food poverty and became a corporate partner with FareShare at the end of 2018 with the aim of working closely with the Charity to identify events and volunteering opportunities to support FareShare’s ambition of supplying food to 11,000 charities and organisations in the UK.

FareShare benefited from Bakkavor’s annual fun weekend in Spalding, Lincolnshire receiving a £6,000 donation following the event. Bakkavor hosts the weekend for colleagues and the local community, with all monies raised from the event being donated to charities.
Bakkavor also held a ‘Go Green Day’ across its UK sites in July in aid of FareShare, raising over £1,700 in just one day. Colleagues dressed up in green outfits, set up food bank collections and held bake sales amongst other activities.

The food provider also challenged it’s graduates to fundraise for FareShare as part of their development on Bakkavor’s graduate scheme. A team of second year graduates successfully raised over £1,300 by walking 28 miles from Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire to the local FareShare collection point in Bourne, personally delivering the food donated through Bakkavor’s ‘Go Green Day’ initiative. The team completed the walk in 10 hrs and 10 minutes, despite an hour-long storm on the way!

FareShare is the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, taking surplus food from the food industry and redistributing it to vulnerable people through its UK-wide network of almost 11,000 charities.

Nichola Wilson, Corporate Partnerships Manager at FareShare, said: “We couldn’t be happier to be partnered with Bakkavor and we’ve been so impressed with the effort staff have gone to. We’re so grateful for their support and really excited about the year ahead. Their commitment and enthusiasm show that amazing things can be achieved when two distinct areas of the food industry work together. Thank you to everyone at Bakkavor!”

Sally Barrett-Jolley, Head of Corporate Affairs at Bakkavor, said: “We are delighted to have raised over £9,000 for FareShare so far this year through great engagement and support from our colleagues. As a responsible business, we are committed to tackling food waste and poverty and we are pleased that through our fundraising we have already helped to provide enough food to create 36,000 meals for people in need in the UK.”
