Faccenda, one of the UK’s largest food businesses, joined forces with FareShare in October 2015 to provide a steady supply of chicken to charities supporting vulnerable people in the West Midlands.
In October 2015, FareShare and Faccenda started a partnership following discussions at the poultry company’s Telford site and key senior directors from Faccenda visiting the nearby FareShare Regional Centre in Birmingham and some of the local charities we support.
Faccenda decided to divert stock to FareShare, to help provide a valuable source of protein for people in need within their local community. The company enlisted the support of their packaging suppliers to create bespoke packaging for the donated products, so they could be delivered to FareShare twice a week.
Through our partnership, Faccenda donate at least one tonne of chicken every week from their Telford site to the FareShare West Midlands. This in turn provides over 2,000 meals a week for vulnerable people living in the region.
In the first two years of our partnership (Oct 15 – Oct 17), Faccenda has supplied over 100 tonnes of quality chicken meat into FareShare West Midlands, enabling them to provide over 250,000 meals to disadvantaged people in the local community.
Receiving a regular delivery of chicken enables our charity members to provide a valuable source of protein for their beneficiaries, many of whom are malnourished or otherwise unable to access fresh meat.
The regularity of Faccenda’s donations also means that these charities can plan their meals around a reliable supply of fresh protein.
Andy Dawkins, Managing Director of Faccenda says:
“Working with FareShare has really made us think again about the value of the food we produce and the power it has to improve the lives of people in need. We’re all incredibly proud to support FareShare and the fantastic work they do, and look forward to continuing this for a long time to come.
“Additionally, the contribution of our packing suppliers has been invaluable, with Sharpak Yate supplying the trays and Coveris UK supplying all the labels, including the artwork, free of charge.”
Mandy Hawkes, Business Development Manager at FareShare West Midlands says:
“There are literally thousands of people in food poverty in the West Midlands so charities and community groups providing food are an essential frontline service. A regular supply of fresh chicken to local charities makes such a difference to the range of hot meals they can make. Our community food members regularly thank us for the chicken and tell us how nutritious hot food makes such a difference to those people who would otherwise not eat at all.”
