Ladies leading the way at FareShare Hull and Humber

29 May 2019

This Volunteer’s Week FareShare Hull and Humber is celebrating the achievements of its first two female volunteers, Elaine and Mandy.

Elaine contacted FareShare Hull and Humber over a year ago to help with their backpack buddies scheme to get food to families facing financial challenges. She was going through a difficult time and suffered from low confidence and self-esteem. Since taking up the volunteering role she’s become much more confident – turning her hand to publicity and promotion as well. She says that volunteering at FareShare has given her the chance to ‘try something different.’

Mandy worked for Hull City Council for 38 years, and, after opting for early retirement – started looking for a new challenge. Keen to use her customer service skills, she felt the driver’s assistant role was ideal.

She told us the best thing about volunteering is visiting the charities and meeting people from all walks of life. Mandy says: “If you have time on your hands then volunteer at FareShare – you won’t regret it!”
