21 October 2020

Christine Kinnear is the Founder & CEO of With Insight Education C.I.C.

Christine’s background is as a social marketing practitioner with 17 years’ experience of strategic marketing, programme management and driving organisational change in not-for-profit organisations.

Originally focused on the environmental sector, Christine has led on national climate change campaigns, worked as a freelance strategic marketing consultant and been Head of Marketing for an environmental behaviour change consultancy.

Christine joined the FareShare Team on Tuesday 20 October to talk about With Insight Education and to share some of the challenges that young black-heritage students are facing nowadays.

With Insight Education's is a not-for-profit organisation with the social mission of increasing the number of black-heritage pupils who progress to top universities as a gateway to a more prosperous future.

With Insight Education provides purposeful mentoring for black-heritage pupils, freeing them of self-limiting doubts and empowering them with the confidence, knowledge and ability to make successful university applications.

Christine said ‘Self-limiting doubts is one of the greatest challenges students are facing. A fear of cultural isolation shakes their university decisions.. Where you go to university has a huge impact on your future job prospects but concerns about belonging acts as a barrier to black-heritage pupils going to top universities..

Since 2018, the organisation has supported pupils to secure places at top universities including Cambridge, Bristol, Leeds, Kings College London and Southampton and is now increasingly working with companies who are keen to nurture a pipeline of black talent.

Christine also talked about how organisations like FareShare –but also individuals- can bring change and support black-heritage pupils such as implementing and participating on mentoring programmes, call your local school and volunteer for interview practice with some Year 12 or to increase the numbers of internships and work experiences for black-heritage students.
