John Lewis and Waitrose will stream first live show to raise money for FareShare

18 December 2020

Waitrose and John Lewis will host a festive fun-filled evening of entertainment to raise money for FareShare.

“This extra special live event is sure to bring some joy in an otherwise difficult year to thousands of people while also raising vital funds for FareShare.”

Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive at FareShare

The event - which is part of the two brands’ efforts to raise money for FareShare and Home-Start - forms part of this year’s Give a Little Love appeal.

More than 25,000 households have already reserved tickets within just a week of them being made available to myWaitrose and myJohnlewis account card holders.

The event - Give a Little Love Live – will be broadcast from a studio in London at 6.30pm this evening, Friday 18 December, and will feature an action packed evening of entertainment designed to celebrate and say thank you for the acts of kindness which have been the hallmark of 2020.

Anchored by presenters Jason Manford and Konnie Huq, the show will feature an exclusive performance by Brit award winning singer songwriter Celeste, who sings the soundtrack of the John Lewis and Waitrose Christmas ad.

The programme will also surprise and delight one of the true community heroes of the year, a headteacher in the North East of England who has gone above and beyond to help pupils at the school where he works, including delivering food to their homes during lockdown to ensure they were well fed.

Some viewers will even get an early Christmas treat with a Love Squad surprising customers across the country. A virtual wall of celebrities will be joining the celebration.

There will also be an interactive family quiz designed to find the nation’s Christmas superfan, which will test viewers’ knowledge of all things festive as well as a search for Britain’s best dressed Christmas home. Some fantastic prizes will be on offer, courtesy of sponsors Samsung, Nespresso and Ooni Pizza ovens.

All of the money donated will be split equally between FareShare and Home-Start UK, with the aim of helping at least 100,000 households this winter.

Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive at FareShare, said: “We are hugely thankful to John Lewis and Waitrose for supporting FareShare with their Give a Little Love campaign. This extra special live event is sure to bring some joy in an otherwise difficult year to thousands of people while also raising vital funds for FareShare. All donations from the event will help us to continue supporting families through these incredibly tough winter months.”

Peter Cross, Customer Experience Director for John Lewis and Waitrose, said: "We promised that this year's Christmas campaign would be like no other, reflecting the unprecedented year we’ve all endured. This is our first departure into the world of live entertainment, but we’re kicking it off on an ambitious scale with a massive audience who will collectively celebrate the acts of kindness which have characterised 2020.

“This event allows us to give a little love to our Waitrose and John Lewis loyalty card holders by giving them a fantastic evening of family entertainment, as well as raising funds for the work of these two charities, who are doing vital work to support families in need, particularly those who have been disproportionately impacted by covid-19.”

Tickets are free, but there will be the opportunity to offer a donation to FareShare and Home-Start UK as part of the Give a Little Love initiative.
