We continue a full national operation to get food to vulnerable people during the Covid-19 crisis.

Kerry Foods partnership with FareShare delivers 1 million surplus meals to local frontline charities in 2020

31 March 2021

Thank you to food manufacturer Kerry Foods for providing the equivalent of over one million meals to FareShare in 2020 after significantly increasing food provision in response to the pandemic.

“COVID-19 has had an immense impact on all communities across the UK. Our goal throughout the pandemic has been very simple, ‘Keep our people safe, while feeding the nation’. To support local individuals and families, we made the decision to increase our food provision with FareShare by providing the equivalent of over 1 million meals to children and adults most in need. At Kerry Foods we are proud to partner with FareShare and commend the terrific work they do.”

Nick Robinson, CEO of Kerry Foods

Kerry Foods has been partnered with FareShare for over five years and has shown impressive commitment to reducing food waste by diverting its surplus food onto charities – to date having redistributed enough food through FareShare to provide the equivalent of 1.5 million meals for people struggling to afford to eat.

Alongside surplus food redistribution, Kerry Foods brands Richmond and Oakhouse Foods also supported FareShare in 2020 with ‘You Buy One, We Give One’ promotions in supermarkets, which saw the two brands commit to donating a similar product to FareShare for every packet of product purchased in store by customers. The promotion with Richmond overall saw more than 800,000 packs of sausages distributed through the FareShare network onto vulnerable people.

Lindsay Boswell, FareShare Chief Executive says:"It’s never been more important to ensure those most vulnerable can access good quality, nutritious food, which is why we are so grateful to Kerry Foods for doing the environmentally best thing with their surplus food by redistributing through the FareShare network and onto the communities who need it most.

"We thank Kerry Foods, not just for their support through the pandemic, but all year round. The quality food we receive from them – including meat – is particularly valuable to the charities we supply.  It helps provide well-balanced meals with a protein source, as well as providing cost savings by charities avoiding having to purchase the products in shops.

"As demand for our service grows, Kerry Foods continue to work with us to ensure good surplus food goes to feed people first."

After the success of delivering 10,000 luxury roast dinners to FareShare in September, Kerry Foods brand Oakhouse then donated another 3,000 meals ahead of Christmas.

Support from partners such Kerry Foods is vital to the work that FareShare does. You are true #FoodHeroes!
