Volunteer with FareShare

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at FareShare.

We stop good food from going to waste and give it to people who need it.

Volunteering FAQs

What does the volunteer recruitment process involve?

volunteer recruitment process

What will you get out of volunteering with us?

Volunteering at FareShare provides the opportunity to be active and social in a friendly environment, whilst gaining skills such as route planning, organisation, and communication.

There will always be induction and training for any role you undertake, with full support and supervision from the Volunteer Manager.

You can gain warehouse management skills such as a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate, forklift training, food safety and manual handling if available at your site.

In addition, reasonable travel expenses and a free lunch will be provided and a work reference for those who have satisfactorily committed to at least 3 months.

Can I volunteer in more than one role?

Yes, you can! Apply for your preferred role and then let your Volunteer Manager know which additional roles you are interested in as part of your induction.

Can I volunteer on evenings and weekends?

Some of our depots are operational on the weekends and evenings. Please use the map to see the operating hours for the site closest to you.

I can’t give 4 hours a week, but can do 3 or 4, can I still volunteer?

If you can’t do the full 4 hours a week, that’s okay, we’re grateful for any time that you’re able to give. However, please do let the Regional Volunteer Manager know what your preferred hours are, so they can fit you into the volunteer timetable.

There are no regional centres close to me, how can I still get involved?

Many of the charities and community groups we support are always looking for new volunteers. One of these may be closer to you than any of our depots. You can use the Community Hub (found here: https://doit.life/fareshare) to search and apply for these opportunities.

What if I have a physical or learning disability?

We are committed to embracing diversity and promoting equality and inclusion. As part of your application, you will be able to let us know of any health conditions or access needs that might impact your volunteering.

How can I get in touch with the volunteering team?

You can email us at volunteering@fareshare.org.uk.

Do you offer Corporate Volunteering?

Thanks for your interest in Corporate Volunteering. Please visit our Corporate Partnerships page to learn more.

Can I volunteer from outside the UK?

We can only accept volunteer applications from within the UK. We do not offer visa sponsorship or visa invitation letters.
