FareShare Southern Central has teamed up with Basingstoke charity Community Furniture Project to help provide food for vulnerable people in the area.

Charities will now be able to collect FareShare food directly from the Community Furniture Project, the new FareShare Local Collection Point for Basingstoke.

FareShare saves good food from going to waste and sends it to charities and community groups who transform it into nutritious meals.

The new collection point follows a two-year £200,000 investment from Hampshire County Council to tackle food poverty in the county.

Matt Wilkinson, FareShare Southern Central said: “Basingstoke has many great charities and community groups working to tackle hunger and help people to get back on their feet. Together we can provide more food to the people who need it and cut down waste.

“We were delighted that our key partner, Elanco, was able to join us for the official opening of our new Basingstoke collection point in partnership with the Community Furniture Project.

Phelim O’Hagan Project Manager at Community Furniture Project said, “FareShare has created an opportunity for charities and community groups to benefit from the excess food generated by the food industry. Wasting good food is wrong, and we are proud to be associated with such a worthwhile charity.”

The team would love to hear from local organisations working with vulnerable people who could put good food to good use. For more information, please email fssoutherncentral@fareshare.org.uk or visit the website www.fareshare.org.uk/regional-centres/southern-central
