Leave a gift in your Will

Help shape communities beyond your lifetime with a gift in your Will

FareShare exists not only to combat food poverty but also food waste. One in six people in the UK – including 3 million children1 – are living in food insecurity, while good-to-eat, surplus food goes to waste. It doesn’t have to be this way. Not today and not tomorrow.

When you leave a gift in your Will to FareShare, you’ll help to ensure the future of all our work in the UK: getting surplus food to the people who really need it.

The impact that a gift in your Will can make

Thank you for considering leaving a gift in your Will to FareShare. Every gift means that we can redistribute even more food to charities and community groups that can turn it into nourishing meals, meaning less hunger and less waste.

Gifts of any size make a huge impact to our work, as for every £1 donated, we are able to redistribute five meals. So, a gift in your Will of even £2,000 could help to redistribute 10,000 meals.

How to leave a gift in your Will to FareShare

It can take less time than you might think to write a Will. Or if you already have a Will, a solicitor can amend it by adding what is called a codicil. We always recommend that you seek legal advice concerning your Will.

There are different types of gifts you can leave in your Will, including:

  • a pecuniary gift – a lump sum of money, e.g. £5,000 of your estate
  • a specific gift – a particular item, such as a necklace
  • a residuary gift – a percentage of what remains of your estate, such as 2%

Seeking expert advice

We recommend seeking legal advice with regards to writing or making changes to your Will. Professional bodies such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority and The Law Society can be helpful in choosing and locating a legal advisor.

The HMRC website might be a useful resource with regards to understanding inheritance tax and how leaving a gift in your Will to charity could help reduce liability.
