After years of campaigning from FareShare and the Felix Project, the Government will be committing £15m towards food surplus redistribution, getting good-to-eat surplus food from our farms to people who need it instead of letting it go to waste.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the National Farmers Union (NFU) Conference in February, as part of a commitment to improving food security in the UK. At a time when 13 million people in the UK are facing food insecurity, this funding has the potential to make an enormous difference to people and communities across the country. We’re pleased to be working with the government and across the charity sector to enable to ensure that this funding will deliver a rapid and effective impact.

Thanks to all of our Parliamentary Supporters, who were instrumental in helping us achieve this huge step forward.
FareShare’s manifesto, Where’s The Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution, calls on the government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need.
The costed manifesto was developed in consultation with businesses, charities and academics. By working together, government, the third sector and industry can overcome the challenges to redistributing more surplus food, which will result in more food getting to people who need it the most.
