Our work with Nationwide Produce

Nationwide provides FareShare with a wide range of fresh produce, from carrots and onions to purple cauliflowers and mangetout.

Since the partnership began in January 2020, Nationwide Produce has given the equivalent of 600,000 meals worth of fresh produce to FareShare. This has been distributed around the United Kingdom to over 3,000 charities. These charities turn it into hot meals and food parcels for people in need.

Working with FareShare has helped Nationwide take a big step towards the company’s long-term goal of becoming a greener business. They’ve been able to reduce the amount of surplus food going to waste, which has the added bonus of freeing up valuable space in their depots.

“We are always thinking ahead at Nationwide Produce with the goal of futureproofing our business and operations”, says Scott Hollins, Managing Director of Nationwide Produce Evesham. “FareShare has been a major part in achieving this goal. They have created a hassle-free system which allows us to give back to those in need whilst reducing our overall food waste.”

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Nationwide offered FareShare invaluable logistics support, funded by Defra, allowing non-perishable foods to be redistributed to charity members. Nationwide’s offering of an entire site for FareShare to use as a distribution centre allowed us to divert food across the country, getting it to those in need.

“I’m incredibly proud to have worked on our 2020 FareShare UK project,” said Channi Bryan, Business Operations Manager at Nationwide Produce PLC. “Integrating key partners such as FareShare is paramount for our business not only to increase our sustainability but to provide our employees with a sense of purpose and accomplishment.”

FareShare also provides a ‘feel-good’ factor for staff: Nationwide has noticed that since partnering with FareShare, team members across the business are more engaged, and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that any unavoidable surplus is going to a great cause.
