Where’s The Food

Where’s The Food?

Hunger in the UK isn’t a problem; it’s a crisis. A crisis where people are left wondering daily: “Where’s the food?”

People are struggling to eat, whilst millions of tonnes of food go to waste. We are asking the Government the same question: “Where’s the food?”

How we got here

Every year, 3 million tonnes of good to eat food goes to waste on our farms and factories.

The Government axed funding to redistribute this surplus food and has refused to reinstate it. Meanwhile, more than 13 million people have been driven into food insecurity by the cost-of-living crisis.

The solution

Through FareShare’s innovative Surplus with Purpose Scheme, we work with farmers and manufacturers to rescue surplus food and redistribute it to charities. It’s not rocket science.

FareShare is calling on the Government to provide support to get 100 million meals to those worst affected by the cost of living crisis. They could pay for it by diverting 3.3% of Anaerobic Digestion subsidies, dormant assets, or the sovereign wealth grant.

The scheme is incredibly popular. More than 20% of Parliament has publicly backed government support for FareShare, and 78% of the public thinks that the Government should do more to help charities access food. It’s a no-brainer.

At a time of so much need, it is a moral and environmental catastrophe that there is so much waste.
