Tom and Marcus: shining a light on the issue of food insecurity faced by millions of children in the UK

We are grateful to you for responding to Tom and Marcus’ call to donate to our Christmas appeal. With your help we can put a meal on the table of thousands of families like Daniel’s and Moira’s this winter. Because no one should go hungry. Please donate now.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Tom and Marcus for their brilliant support of our Christmas appeal.

Donations to this appeal will enable us to distribute food to 10,500 local charities.

76% of the charities that FareShare provide with food support children and families. Your gift at Christmas will help us get food to families who are struggling. Thank you.

“This is a cause that is close to my heart. Whilst Marcus and I are from different generations, we share a lot of similarities in our journey to success. I also grew up in a single parent household on a council estate, my mum worked 2 jobs and, although I never went without food, times were difficult, and money was tight.”

A widower and father of three from Glasgow, who has spent the last five years living in temporary accommodation has been receiving food since the coronavirus outbreak began. “The food has got more expensive and we have not had the money to eat”. It has been a challenging year for Daniel, he lost his partner during the first national lockdown and that meant the loss of the main income for the household. For the past four months Daniel has been going twice a week to his local Community Centre to pick up a food parcel supplied by FareShare. “Since walking through the door, coming here has been the best time of the week”.

A single mum from Manchester who lost her part-time job at the beginning of the pandemic, has been receiving FareShare food at a most critical time. This has not only enabled her to feed her family, it has given her some breathing space to get back on her feet, taking away stress and sleepless nights. “Knowing I can get food on the table has helped me financially as well, now I have money to pay the bills and the rent”.

Daniel and Moira are among the many hundreds of struggling families whose lives have been changed for the better thanks to donations from FareShare friends like you. Sadly, the request for assistance has grown significantly with more vulnerable people at risk of going hungry this Christmas. Please will you send a gift and help us reach more people in need?
