Sainsbury’s Surplus Food Redistribution Programme

We want to share an important update regarding Sainsbury’s Surplus Food Redistribution Programme.

From March 2026, Olio will be working with Sainsbury’s, in close collaboration with FareShare, to manage Sainsbury’s Surplus Food Collections.

Charities will begin managing their surplus food collections from Sainsbury’s stores using Olio’s app, newly developed for charities, with the FareShare Go Team providing its dedicated charity support.

This will happen seamlessly alongside Sainsbury’s existing Olio Food Waste Hero collections, enabling all of Sainsbury’s food redistribution to be managed through the Olio app.

Under this new partnership, to collect from Sainsbury’s as a charity, you will need to be registered with FareShare Go and use the Olio app to manage your collections

This new partnership will go live in March, and the store rollout will be phased regionally until the end of April.

We want to ensure the continuity of current charity collections at Sainsbury’s. To continue receiving collections as per your current collection schedule, we need a couple of things from you.

What if my organisation is new to FareShare Go?

Welcome!

As you’re new to FareShare, please fill in the webform to your right to tell us a little about your organisation and your current collection schedule at Sainsbury’s. One of our team will then be in touch to onboard your organisation fully. Please keep an eye on your email inbox, junk and spam for this contact.

What if my organisation is already registered with FareShare Go?

Your organisation will be sent a survey on Wednesday 7th January to the primary email address FareShare has on file, inviting you to share your Sainsbury’s collection schedule with us. Please keep an eye on your email inbox, junk and spam for this contact and fill in your details accordingly. If, after the 7th, you believe you may have missed this survey, you can contact our friendly support team as usual on the details below, who will take down your collection schedule details:

When should I get in touch about my Sainsbury’s collections?

Please complete the survey you’ve been sent or the form to the right if you’re new to FareShare as soon as you possibly can, so that your existing collection schedules can be honoured with minimal disruption. The sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can get you onboarded and support you with the right training materials, making the transition smoother.

To make sure that any and all good food is rescued from going to waste, we may allocate collection slots to other organisations where we haven’t heard from you.

We’ll be in touch nearer the time with specific dates of when any existing Sainsbury’s collections will be managed in this new way. In the meantime, you can continue to follow your usual collection process until you hear anything more from us. We’re really grateful for your understanding and patience during the transition period.

Can I continue to collect from Sainsbury’s and not manage my collections through Olio & FareShare Go?

By the end of April 2026, Olio will be working with Sainsbury’s, in close collaboration with FareShare, to manage all of Sainsbury’s surplus food collections.

Your organisation will need to be registered with FareShare Go and be willing to use the Olio app in order to continue your Sainsbury’s collections.

How we use your data:

Once you’ve filled out our survey, FareShare’s customer support team will contact you by email or phone to discuss your Sainsbury’s collections. Instructions and training will follow on how to access your Sainsbury’s collections via the Olio app (we’ll set up your organisation’s profile for you and send you instructions on how to login).

As your collections from Sainsbury’s will be managed via the Olio app, where necessary, we’ll be sharing your information with them, so they can support the set-up of your account and contact you directly where applicable.

You can read FareShare’s full privacy notice here. You can also access Olio’s terms & conditions, privacy policy and end user agreement. By filling out this survey, you are consenting to the above.
