At FareShare, we’re always looking for ways to get even more food into our Network, which then gets distributed to over 8,500 charities and community groups across the UK. This is particularly important now as the Cost of Living Crisis continues to add even more pressure to people facing financial hardship across the UK.
One of the changes we’ve made to help achieve this and help make working with us flexible for our Food Partners, is rolling out an updated Best Before Dates Policy to simplify the process of redistributing surplus food with us.
Our policy is aimed at increasing the good-to-eat food and drink we can accept and redistribute to the charities and community groups we serve, and at maintaining the quality of the food we redistribute. It streamlines our processes by removing the need for Partners to provide extension notes every time they give us with food that is approaching or has passed its Best Before Date.
We’re extending the time we will accept on non-chilled items past their Best Before Date, allowing us to redistribute them providing they are still good quality.
FareShare will be adopting automatic extensions for certain items, providing that safeguards are met and packaging is intact upon inspection of the food by the teams in our Regional Centres.

Nothing! No more extension notes required. Our new policy means that the extensions will be automatically added to food items by our team, simplifying the way we handle surplus food, reduce food waste and provide support to people in need.
Not only that, but it’ll mean even less paperwork for you going forward and an easier process for you and our warehouses.
If you would like to continue providing your own extensions and would like to opt out of our new Policy, you can complete the form on this page and your Account Manager will get in touch with you to discuss this further.
