Our longstanding partner Tesco has gone above and beyond in its support for FareShare throughout 2021, helping to redistribute more than 35 million meals to communities across the UK.
From donating their surplus food and providing £3M of food to help feed children over the summer, to running national food collections, matching customer Clubcard donations and even enlisting the support of colleagues from head office and stores to volunteer for us.
At the beginning of the year, Tesco installed new food donation points in stores across the UK, meaning shoppers can now donate to FareShare all year round in more than 290 stores.
During the summer, Tesco launched its Buy One to Help a Child campaign which has gone on to help provide millions of meals to feed children via FareShare. Every time a customer purchased fresh fruit or veg in-store or online, Tesco donated to FareShare to enable us to buy more food for our network.
Tesco again ran two food collections this year, in the summer and the winter, where customers could donated millions of long-life food to FareShare.
With the continuation of the Clubcard voucher donation programme this year, Tesco has also run an additional campaign where they matched all voucher donations when customers donate to FareShare.
Through FareShare Go, stores across the UK have redistributed more than 7,500 tonnes of food, the equivalent of more than 18 million meals, to our network of local charities. They have also redistributed more than twelve million meals worth of food through their regional distribution centres.
Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive at FareShare, said: “We are so thankful to Tesco for all that they do for FareShare and the huge amount of support they have provided throughout 2021. They are always looking for new ways to help, from introducing more donation points in store, to running the exciting Buy One to Help a Child scheme during the summer.
“Thank you also to every single Tesco colleague that has shown their support for FareShare by helping to encourage customer donations during both food collections, gotten food to our regional centres during turbulent times, and supported our network of 10,500 charities across the UK.
“We really couldn’t do what we do at FareShare without the backing and support we get from Tesco.”
