Community Festive Feasts for FareShare charities

2 December 2019

More than 1,000 people from charities and community groups across the UK are set to enjoy community festive feasts thanks to a partnership between FareShare, John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners.

“These Festive Feasts are a wonderful way for the John Lewis Partnership to support the front line work happening in the communities in which they operate, and this specific campaign builds on the year-long work their branches do with local charities.”

In the next two weeks, the charities, the people they support and volunteers will come together to enjoy a Christmas dinner served by John Lewis and Waitrose as part of the retailers’ campaign to bring people together this Christmas.

The dinners will either be hosted in private dining rooms in John Lewis shops, or in the local charities’ dining spaces.

Alyson Walsh, Commercial Director at FareShare, said: “Christmas can be an incredibly tough time of year for those facing food poverty, loneliness and social isolation. We’re thrilled to be working with John Lewis and Partners to provide these Community Festive Feasts, which, as well as giving people a delicious hot meal, will bring people together around a shared table, creating new friendships and lasting Christmas memories.

FareShare has been working with Waitrose and Partners since 2017 via the FareShare Go scheme to provide surplus food to those in need from Waitrose stores. In that time, more than 1.5 million meals have been donated to over 1,100 charities in the FareShare network.

The John Lewis & Partners Foundation has also funded FareShare’s warehouse and forklift truck training programme in Leeds since 2018.

In addition to the feasts, John Lewis and Waitrose are giving FareShare a £150,000 donation to support their work, and Partners from both retailers have pledged to volunteer at FareShare Regional Centres during the Christmas period.
