We continue a full national operation to get food to vulnerable people during the COVID-19 crisis.

Corporate Partner highlight: Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation steps up its support during the crisis

30 June 2020

The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation has been supporting FareShare for 10 years, donating vital funds and regularly sending teams of Sodexo staff to volunteer at FareShare warehouses across the UK – sorting, packing and delivering food to frontline charities.

“The Sodexo Foundation are valued and longstanding supporters of FareShare, so we weren’t surprised that they stepped up to help us during the crisis in a big way.”

Before the coronavirus pandemic began the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation were planning to offer staff more chances to volunteer at FareShare. When lockdown happened and this was no longer possible the team quickly got in touch to find out how they could carry on helping the charity to get food out to vulnerable people.

As well as encouraging staff to carry on volunteering, provided it was safe for them to do so, Sodexo also made sure that sites that would have to close due to lockdown were able to divert surplus food to FareShare. This meant hundreds of meals worth of food that would otherwise have been wasted instead went to frontline charities.

The Sodexo Foundation also provided FareShare Merseyside with discounted security services, meaning that the site could stay open and continue getting food out to charities offering a lifeline to the local community, such as food banks, domestic violence refuges and homeless hostels.

Nichola Wilson, Corporate Partnerships Manager, FareShare, says: “The Sodexo Foundation are valued and longstanding supporters of FareShare, so we weren’t surprised that they stepped up to help us during the crisis in a big way. As well as offering their support throughout the pandemic, they’ve even started to plan staff fundraising events over summer. To meet increased demand because of the crisis FareShare is now getting over twice the amount of food to vulnerable people – we simply wouldn’t have been able to do this without the incredible support of companies like Sodexo. Obviously we’re sad not to see big groups of Sodexo volunteers in our warehouses at the moment but we can’t wait to see them again as soon as we can. We can’t thank everyone at Sodexo enough!”
