FareShare Publishes Annual Report Celebrating 30 Years of Strengthening Communities
FareShare has released its latest Annual Report, celebrating 30 years of redistributing surplus food to feed people in need and strengthening communities across the UK. What began as a small charity supporting people experiencing homelessness has grown into the UK’s leading surplus food redistribution network, working with over 8,300 charities and community groups nationwide.
In the past year, FareShare redistributed enough surplus food to create 135 million meals, helping nearly 1 million people while preventing the equivalent of 106,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This work has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of 723 food partners and the dedication of over 26,600 volunteers.
The report highlights significant milestones from the year, including the launch of the Coronation Food Project, an important initiative inspired by His Majesty King Charles III. This initiative mobilises industry leaders to address food waste and ensure surplus food reaches communities most in need.
Reflecting on the milestone, John Bason, Chair of FareShare, said:
"FareShare’s journey over the past 30 years demonstrates the transformative power of food. By working with charities, volunteers, and food industry partners, we not only tackle food waste but also strengthen communities, creating a positive social and environmental impact that is needed now more than ever."
The report underscores FareShare's commitment to using surplus food as a tool to enhance health, reduce isolation, and enable grassroots organisations to thrive. By ensuring good food does not go to waste, FareShare addresses hunger and contributes to a more sustainable and compassionate society.
