This St. George's Day, we're catching up with the team at St George’s Community Centre, a community-run organisation based in an area of high deprivation, providing food and support to those in need.
“FareShare is a cost effective way of giving people a meal and helping people to eat. If we can ease the financial pressure of buying food, people have the chance to focus on other concerns they have.”

From families to individuals, the Centre helps people in financial difficulty or facing food poverty. Food from FareShare is used to run a lunch club for older people, or those who are socially isolated, providing people with a chance to make new friends in a friendly, welcoming environment as well as a nourishing hot meal.
“FareShare is a cost effective way of giving people a meal and helping people to eat,” says Lesley who works at the Centre.
The services are complemented by a range of support to improve people’s wellbeing, from free counselling to exercise classes, singing groups and adult education.
“If we can ease the financial pressure of buying food, people have the chance to focus on other concerns they have,” Lesley continues.
FareShare supports over 9,000 charities like St. George’s Community Centre across the UK. Help us to continue our work fighting hunger – donate what you can to FareShare.
