Generous Tesco customers have donated the equivalent of more than two million meals’ worth of food to FareShare in the last year.
“We are so thankful to our customers and colleagues who generously give what they can, year round and whose donations of long life food items are so vital to charities and communities when needed.”
Claire de Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco
Customers can donate long-life food items, such as tinned vegetables, cereals and tea and coffee, via Tesco’s food donation collection points which are located in all large stores and will soon also be in place in all Express stores from June.
With 295 PCPs collecting food for FareShare, all customer donations are then redistributed back into the community via a network of 10,500 charities.
Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive at FareShare, said: “With the cost-of-living crisis and rise in taxes having a huge impact on thousands of families across the UK, more and more people are turning to their local charities for support.
“The donations of long-life products are so important and compliment the fresh food we receive via our regional centres, meaning we have a steady supply of store cupboard staples to support our network of local charities and community groups.
“We are so thankful to each and every Tesco customer that has donated a tin of vegetables or bag of pasta to support FareShare during these increasingly difficult times.”
