Sales of a special edition Yeo Valley yoghurt made with leftover fruit that might otherwise have gone to waste, have raised more than £12,000 for surplus food redistribution charity, FareShare.

Left-Yeovers yoghurt, which combined leftover figs, carrot juice and orange juice with fresh strawberries, went on sale in 400 Tesco stores across the UK last October, with 10p being donated to FareShare for every limited edition pot sold.

The purpose of the promotion was to draw attention to the problem of food waste and encourage people not to throw out food that is still good to eat. Yeo Valley also provided shoppers with recipe suggestions for using up leftover yoghurt, including a winter scone recipe provided by FareShare’s Helen Scully.

Caley Eldred, Director of Fundraising at FareShare, said: “Left Yeovers was a novel way to remind shoppers that leftover ingredients can always be made into something tasty, with a little bit of imagination – something the charities and community groups FareShare supplies with surplus food know only too well!

“On behalf of all those charities, we’d like to thank every shopper who purchased Left Yeovers yoghurts, and Yeo Valley for their generous donation, which will help us to redistribute more good, surplus food to people in need.”
