Glasgow & The West Of Scotland

FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland redistributes quality surplus food to charities and community groups feeding people at risk of food poverty. This includes schools, homeless hostels, and community centres. FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland redistributes surplus food across 13 local authority areas, containing 52% of the population in Scotland, reaching over 80,000 beneficiaries every week.

Serving meals is a way for organisations to directly engage with the people they support and using FareShare food enables them to redirect funds into improving their own services.

The Glasgow and the West of Scotland regional centre of FareShare is managed by Move On, a charity supporting people to achieve personal goals and make positive, lasting change in their lives. Move On use FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland as a unique training site, offering local people the opportunity to gain qualifications; practical training and work experience; and securing their forklift and driving licenses. Many of the people Move On work with face barriers to employment, including low confidence; little or no work experience; poor physical or mental health; experience with the criminal justice system; or experience with addiction.

Voices from FareShare Glasgow & West Scotland…

“FareShare scheme has been invaluable to our project. It has meant that our residents have benefited from a nutritious balanced diet that we on our own wouldn’t have been able to give them. The service has suffered like most other agencies from budget cuts.”
Communities of recovery

“I have tried more different types of food here (in Emmaus) in a week than I have in the last 20 years”.
