Established in 2014, FareShare Southern Central provides good quality surplus food – which might otherwise go to waste – to around 150 charities and community organisations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, as well as parts of Dorset too. The charities we support include breakfast clubs, food banks and pantries, lunch clubs for older people, homeless shelters, day centres, and community cafés. Many of these provide wraparound services to help with issues including debt, mental health and addiction.
We work closely with the food and drink industry and local supporters to ensure that no good food goes to waste, with day-to-day operations from our warehouse in Southampton made possible thanks to a hardworking team of volunteers.
In addition to redistributing food to charities and groups across the region, FareShare Southern Central also operates its own weekly larders. These mobile food larders run in partnership with other local anti-poverty services and are specifically designed to support areas where residents have limited access to services.
It would be impossible for FareShare Southern Central to carry out this vital work without a dedicated team of volunteers. We are always looking for new people to join us – as van drivers, drivers’ mates, warehouse assistants and admin staff.
