FareShare Yorkshire was founded in Barnsley in 1998 to serve vital frontline organisations with surplus food. We currently support almost 400 charities and community groups with enough food for 4.4 million meals each year. Our Barnsley and Leeds centres are volunteer driven and nothing that we do would be possible without them. Whether they are delivering surplus food to Community Food Members (CFMs) or picking and packing food, our award-winning volunteers are the beating heart of our entire operation.

Our Gold-Standard warehouses are both NSF and ITSSAR accredited, supporting communities with food, intensive employability support, rapid logistics solutions and forklift training.

Each year, we process around 2,000 tonnes of surplus food from over 500 food sites, which includes ambient, chilled, fresh and frozen items. We prevent this from going to waste once it becomes surplus to commercial requirements.  The reasons for this include a short shelf life, poor forecasting, less aesthetically pleasing produce and manufacturing mistakes such as mispackaging or minor quality control rejections.

Since 2020, the FullCrumb Kitchen has been our on-site training kitchen. We teach both CFMs and volunteers how to make the best use of surplus food from basic cooking and knife skills, to recipe sharing and base sauce creation.  The kitchen is a welcoming hive of activity.
